A Minor Poet is Visited by the Muse (1966)

Abroad early among daisies
His ear caught
The surely-some-revelation murmur of
Prospective polysyllables.
Happily his clipboard was at hand, whereon
(His eyes lifted in reverence towards the sea)
He set down
This set down
Safely delivered of his song
He tethered his Pegasus
To the ambrosial coffee-bar of the dawn
And broke his fast in thanksgiving,
His eyes glazed still
By the rush of spent angels to the head.
